Welcome to the Cub Pack
Well the start of the autumn term wouldn’t be the same without the evening hike to the Chip shop and wide games on the field, and the chance for the new Cubs to get into the fun of Scouting. So off we went torches in hand for what turned out to be a bright moon lit evening. Oh well chips in a bag always taste good where ever we are.
We were most grateful to Fred who came along to our pack evening with his selection of lizards and snakes. From the tinniest gecko lizard to a 10 foot long boa constrictor the Cubs got a chance to learn about their habitats and lifestyles, and without one flinch, scream or hidden eyes everyone got a chance to actually touch the reptiles. To say there where cute is actually true, the boa constrictor did an attempt at break dancing across the floor & the bearded dragon was hungry for a cricket or two.
Cubs across the District where invited to take part in the Fishing competition held this year on the Wey Navigation Canal in New Haw. Well done to 1st Virginia Water WE CAME SECOND! Had it not been for the squirrels bombarding us with acorns for the entire afternoon and no doubt scaring the brown trout we could have at least had the biggest catch!
While the evenings are still fine we make the best of going outside. We had a great evening walking around the site of the Chertsey Abbey ruins, scaring each other, trying to spot the odd ghostly apparition and looking for bats. Then we returned to the museum to make “Viking” swords.
Cubs are achieving the Promise Challenge award badge this term so each Six has suggest an activity where they run the evening. What great adventurous ideas and vivid imaginations boys have! A Lego City evening constructing a Scout related construction, A Science evening with various experiments like making a tornado in a bottle, spooky shadow puppet shows, and back to the woods for a sausage sizzle and games in the dark.
And to make sure all Cubs know what to do as Emergency First aid this term they will all be able to achieve stage 1 of the Emergency Aid Staged Activity Badge.
