Welcome to Scouts

The start of the autumn term started with 7 new members joining the Troop, bringing the total number of Scouts to 14.  The first week back saw us having our senses tested.  The evening was called Scouts Be-Sense-Able, and Scouts were blindfolded and had to guess, feel, smell and even taste “things” and guess the items. Some tastes and smells were rather unexpected and very yucky!

Then we were off with a rather soggy start…Cardboard rafting. The weather was fantastic and a great way to say welcome to our new Scouts, some who are new to the troop and some who have moved up from Cubs. On a bright Sunday morning Scouts from across the District meet up at Addlestone canoe club armed with copious amounts of cardboard and gaffer tape to construct cardboard rafts. The aim was to see which team could stay afloat for the longest time and travel the further distance …..1st Virginia Water didn’t travel the furthest but in terms of sink-ability we where undoubtly the winners.

The Scouts have been invited to follow the Masters in Arms Archery course this term, run by our District Archery Advisor team. The course is being held at 1st Egham Hythe HQ over 5 weeks learning the aspects and skills for archery. At the end of the course they will be presented with their Masters in Archery Certificates. It seemed that the most challenging aspect was knowing your left from your right and which your shooting arm was, and then of course going for that all important bulls eye!

Hiking is a particular favourite event within our Scouts and thanks to our leaders they are off to many destinations. District night Hikes, which required pitching a tent at night and camping on route. As the leaves turn brown , it's time for our now traditional Autumn hike in the Chilterns, starting at Wendover and walk to the Braid Wood Scout camp site camping in the woods which is fun and enjoyed by all.
